Jeremy Berg

Former RHP AAA Angels

1. Could you tell us your story on dropping down?

I would drop down when i was young instead of throwing curveballs. My junior year of high school my coach said to try submarine and mix in over the top when needed. That has progressed into being exclusively a submarine pitcher.

2. What are some of the advantages you had from your arm angle?

My arm angle creates movement and deception that makes it harder to pick up for right handed hitters.

3. If you didn't drop down, do you think you would have had the same success?

No. I would have been a hitter, and I was not talented enough at that to play professionally.

4. What would you tell someone debating on changing their arm angle?

It has to feel natural.

5. Are there any mechanical tips that you'd give to someone throwing sidearm/submarine?

It is very similar to throwing over the top, you just add trunk tilt to create the angle. You just have to find the cues that work for you.

6. What pitches did you throw?

I throw sinker, curveball, cutter/slider, and change up.

7. How did you pitch to lefties/righties?

It all depends on the hitter and situation, but you have to effectively throw inside.

8. Lastly what was your favorite part about pitching from down there?

It allows me to successfully compete at a high level. It's nice to see guys put bad swings on pitches or even look confused at times.
