RHP AAA - Mariners Team USA Premier 12
1. Could you tell us your story on dropping down?
I started pitching my senior year of college due to groin injury. During the fall, my buddy Matt Ruppenthal encouraged me to try throwing more athletically, and it kind of happened over night.
2. What are some of the advantages you have from your arm angle?
Any time a hitter sees something different, whether it be arm slot or pitch action, is an opportunity.
3. If you didn't drop down, do you think you would have had the same success?
My career would never have developed to this point if I hadn’t. Because I started pitching so late in the game, I had to do something to get time on the field. I would have been a below average, stock RHP had I not.
4. What would you tell someone debating on changing their arm angle?
I’m a believer in throwing wherever you can most efficiently and comfortably. If that happens to be a lower arm slot, so be it. However you can get the most outs! Talk to your catchers, hitters, and experiment.
5. Are there any mechanical tips that you'd give to someone throwing sidearm/submarine?
My number one mechanical tip would be to keep your direction to the plate. It’s key to maintaining proper momentum and drive in the delivery.
6. What pitches do you throw?
I throw a 4 seam, sinker, slider, and changeup.
7. How do you pitch to lefties/righties?
When I throw to lefties, I make sure to finish my delivery. Sometimes when I don’t have a RHH I’ll leave more balls arm side.
8. What is your favorite part about pitching from down there?
My favorite part is being able to talk smack to the over the top guys for sure.
